Been a couple of months now since I sold my jeep. Been tossing ideas around for a while on what I wanted to do. Finally made my mind up that I am going to bite off a big chunk and build a buggy. I have things in motion as of yesterday.Commited to a deal with Jimmy Smith (aetna buggy) last night. Perchased my tubing today. I'm waiting on my seats to get here and heading to Jimmy's shop first of next week. I just love the style buggies he puts out. Here are the basic plans:
Specs on frame: 2 seat 13/4 11 gauge
383 chevy
th350 and np205
tons w/possible rear steer
42 or 44 "Tenneesee cut TSL's
4 link with coil overs f/r
The build will be very slow due to building our house, but I'm anxious to work with Jimmy and see how it will look. Will be similar to the green buggy Wes has, but not a copy cat. Jimmy has been super nice and I'm excited to get this thing going. I'll be posting pics as I go, so anyone who has done a buggy, I am open to idea's. Any real good deals out the on some of there on things I'll be using let me know.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

1st load of stuff, went and picked up the tubing. Man looking at this pile of metal reminds me how much there is to do from here.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

It isn't that bad, just a little here and there. Do you have a finish date in mind. My goal is to have mine done by Christmas and take it to Wheelin In The Country for a trial run....

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Honestly, probably next May. I am going to do all I can, but funds will be tight. Between sending Lindsey back to school and a house, I'm just lucky to be starting. :****: Good luck on your build. Are you going to start a thread? I would love to see the process. :dblthumb:

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

When I get it home I probably will. I really want the rear steer it already has but it would be so much cheaper to sell it and go with a 14 bolt. I have always wanted rear steer and I guess now is the time to make it happen.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Man Josh if your serious about selling the rear steer put me in line on that action ! That would be kickass.

Good luck to both you guys on your projects , the process is just as much fun IMO !!

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

What do you have as far as rear steer goes. High Pinion 60? Thanks P, hope I didn't bother you about the chassis to much. Thanks for all your help.

If its the buggy jimmy was building for himself it had a Sterling in it with Spidertrax knuckles I believe.

Definately go rear steer. I really wish I would have.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

I plan on it. I already have the steer valve at the shop. Plus I have access to hydraulic everything through work. :dblthumb: I just see how you can turn round and round a tree if you want to, and it's bad :cougar:

That's it.... Going to run Longfields in the rear.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Wow!!! Dropped the 2nd bomb today. Parts list update:
8 3/4 heims
10 1 1/4 heims
all the hardware to go with em ( via ballistic fab)
link bar material 20' 2" 1/2wall and 20' 1 1/2" 1/4 wall( keystone morman)
4 new 2.0 16" travel Fox coilovers with springs non resevoir ( wide open design)
D60 kingpin front almost ready to use
14 bolt rear , not even close.
Definetly not all that is going to be bought, but it is for now. I'll post some pics of all this and the progress as I get the chance.
Jimmy Starts the chassis tomorrow and I'll be taking the rest of this to him in a couple of weeks.

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

One parts purchase at a time son ! Stick with it you'll be glad you did when your rocking that buggy !! :woot:

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Wouldn't have got so much at one time, but going to let Jimmy do the 4 link at his shop. I had to go ahead and get the stuff in line for it, especially to cut down the trips to TN. It hurt, but not nearlly as bad as when I told the wifey (ouuchh!)

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Taking all my parts to TN tuesday. Should have it back rolling in a couple of weeks. We'll be just waiting on the delivery of the shocks. The wife is OK , just thought I'd throw that at ya'll. molaugh

I have seen the buggy and it's 80% done on the frame. I will say it is something new that Jimmy hasn't built. Def. not a copy or look alike. I will also say I'm am very excited and proud of the buggy. Jimmy is fun to work with and is doing an awesome job! :dblthumb:

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

are the boggers rollers or you going old school and run them for a while?

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

The boggers are rollers. He should have showed pics of the rims molaugh molaugh

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

Man, don't hate on the dubs, there yours!! May run just to show everybody how good wo out cut crappys are. Nah, I am deciding now what I'm gonna run. :dunno: Was def. 44 tsl, now leaning slightly towards 42 Irocs. Any suggestions from those who have ran um?

Re: (Long way to go) buggy build

I would have went with 44 TSL if I could have got them in a 17" . I have always been happy with an IROK . They do good, I have ran 3 sets.
