• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

So i bought a 51 Whilly

Tomorrow ill throw the front end housing under it and start thinking about front links. Ive thought the rear to death so maybe ill actually take the plunge and make the lower rears tomorrow.

Sam are ya still coming over at 2:00? I'm ready to burn some wire.:FIREdevil:

I planned on it:awesomework:

Even get to rock a work truck so im burning somebody elses fuel for once hahahaha:haha:

That looks like a good amount of progress, I'm jealous. My poor willy is sitting in the driveway with the front end out still, waiting for kingpin bearings. I should have just had you send me the ones out of yours...

I want christmas at my house:eeek:

Thanks Warjeeper

Sam cam by today and burned some wire for me. Did a great job with my shitty fitting abilities, made it all look easy. Had him buzz on a couple of rod ends for me first.

these are called tall nuts, $2.34 each. They just fit between the flats and with a touch of the grinder on the tip of two corners they fit snugly into the id of the Square tube, once i have them cut to length ill weld these into the tubes. maybe put a rosette groove in the sides.

Couple of joints welded up.

I love those links!!!
I have been planning on using square tube for mine just to save a couple of $. The tall nut thing is very clean. :awesomework:

What a relaxing day

I went square cause i plan on making my mistakes and its actually stronger than most round DOM tube for bending. Even Bernies .500 wall stuff got bent. Square is readily available and pretty cheap. You know me its all about cheap do it your self.

Decided I needed to know where the radiator assembly was gonna be so I could miss it with the upper front link brackets, so I went after that today.

Mounted the Taurus 2Sp to the radiator with a piece of 1/4 Aluminium strap. I need the other side as it was not long enough to make both sides.

The assembly consists of the radiator stock from the blazer with built in oil cooler, an aftermarket tranny cooler I figured for hydraulic steering, and a reciever that came on the original blazer I am gonna use as a tranny cooler.

I left a half inch for engine clearance.

Pretty much have the lincs lowers all figured out, as to angles and where the ends are gonna land. Pretty much figured out i need to move the motor back to dead center on the frame as everything will actuall fit better. The upper lincs can tuck higher when the front pulley is centered.

Also the front drive shaft will actually be straighter, as will the rear.

Guess what these little babys are for?

A little anti progress today. I moved the motor back to center in the frame. At least part way. I need to replace the blade on my porta ban saw so I can remove the old temp mounts from the plate I need to reuse.

So the rear is relocated and tacked the front is still on a jackstand but centered. Front upper links will have another inch now.:awesomework:

Bunk wheres the tube for the links dude? now that the weekend is over...

I lost two of the poly bushings for the motor mounts somewhere in all the mess, I tried to take the ones on Nuzzys bench but the darn cut and paste feature wasnt working....:fawkdancesmiley:

Bushings for something?:eeek:

Ahh, close sleeves to go thru the tube for mounts. also to make my winch mounts. 5/8" ID .250 wall.

Hey, great progress for an old man. Happy Birthday tomorrow!

Any plans for fun?

I got your old man right here:bananadance:hey ya got any pictures from one of my formal rafting trips scanned into jpeg's?

Ok recovery time the motor is now back centered, and the motor mounts are burned in and painted:D

I really like the two colors of green im gonna use, this is the lighter shade. Rustoleum hammered.

Anyone have one 1 1/2" poly bushing they want to part with?

Went all over today except 4WP and Oly4X4 and could not find the right size.
