Batmobile 14 bolt front build

How did WFO do with the new gears?

Absolutely a different buggy. It's much much more trail friendly and tamed down in low range. It pulls high range 1st gear pretty close to the old low range 3rd gear. I'm very pleased with it.

Bumping the power up a little might help the anemic feeling it suffers from when I want to cut donuts like a hood rat.

Okay, I got to ask this question. How much stronger is a 14 bolt front over a HP 60 ? I have waited and waited for somebody to make a HP 14 bolt and Yes I know the technology is out there to grind HP gears for a 14 bolt. Tubeworks and Gearsworks have HP 10.5 gear sets.

Re:

How much is a bling out 14 front vs a 9" housing with 10" gears? Stength difference as well. I know it's got to be lighter.

A Torq Super14 and Gearworks center are very close in price. The Spidertrax 3.5" tube housing is $650 more than the Torq.

Strength is a good point of discussion that has been beat to death with opinion. I think the 14 bolt is stronger from a shock load perspective but that's my opinion.

I couldn't keep HI9 gears from burning up in the rear of my old car running on the coast side but the fronts were fine. Forget running an ARB, I never had one make a race without breaking.

On the other side, we just pulled the gears from WFO last week and with 2 bent load bolts the gears look great and perfectly useable. Obviously the Super14 thirds will deflect under load but didn't hurt the gears.

My opinion, both are great and have their place. My new car is getting 4" tube housings and Gearworks centers with spools.

I have one I will let go, it came out of the front of my buggy and will need tubes put in it.

Having a properly setup axle helps. If you get any deflection from any part of the axle tubes, bearings, knuckles, C's, hubs, locker you start snapping axles like toothpicks. Especially running any kind of hp with 43's.

Best comment in this entire thread, I have been running Yukons since 2012 and have broke 2 stub axels. Yukon Spool in the front. The second axle I broke just recently was due to a broken Knuckle and Inner C.

Trying to understand.. deflection in the bearings, knuckle, C's or locker will cause your shafts to break? How could deflection in those areas influence the shaft failure? From what I've seen, the failure is almost always centered around the U-joint failing in some way or another. There's a reason so many people who switch to super joints or CTM's almost never have anymore shaft failures.

I think what he is saying is, that if your housing is warped, bent, bearings damaged, etc. It puts strain or load on the shafts that they aren't designed to have. I'd imagine that this is why you see high end housings set up with "true bars" and then checked from time to time after the fact.

Will, I just had 2 recently donated to me so I will donate this one to you. Just come get it and its yours.

With the 4in tubes, what thickness will they be?? Seams a 4in 3/8 wall is stronger 0ver a span than 3.5 .5 wall. And probly real close in weight. I have not checked the #s though.
