Concerning Reiter--up and coming.

For less damage to the resources (i.e. the trails), has been approached to have the section of paved road between the parking lot and the power-line trail (whatever its called) to get to the 3rd pit opened up to "all" traffic?

Put up a big sign just past the power-line road/trail thing stating no ORV past this point, but allow bikes, quads, 4x4 to traverse just that 1/2-mile section of pavement. It would sure save a ton of potential damage to the trail system (up poop shoot, unauthorised blazing of new trails etc).

Or as Jay suggested, make the logging roads connect to the point there is non-pavement access.

We asked that question---there comes ALOT of be from the county since thats there road--and they pretty much said hell no.

The only problem with tieing the road to the OM--you have a rather LARGE ravine to get across with a large flowing creek--thats not an option as of right now (DNR FUNDS).

But there is a trail that paralells reiter road all the way to the powerline access road--the only issue is the top 200ft of the trail is not 4x4 accessable. Thats what I am going to go look at with david way of the DNR and see if there is anything that can be done..

As for the comment about converting the trail. Here is how I look at it. Most of the single track trails have been there for a very long time and the bikes get mad when quads punch thru them---then we punch thru tham.. The bikes then go off and make new trails--and the cylce continues.

Basicly look at it this way---would you like to see an 8ft wide tracko run down our trials knocking everything out of the way--oh hell no....

So basically, while a new connector off the main logging roads would be ideal, the first plan of attack is to make a new connector of some sort across from the parking lot, somehow down the steep hill (or around it, never really explored that area), then down to the parallel trail system by the big mud hold.

Sounds like a good starter plan, and one that hopefully both bikes, quads and 4x4's can get behind since this new "enforcement" impacts all of us.

that's a good idea mark, but i think it'd also cause more traffic on that road (obviously) but with the increased traffic, more chances for collisions then, (ie. motorcycle guy thinking he's Pastrana around a blind corner...)

Exactly....

I'm liking all the idea's here..thanks for posting this up crash..there has too be a way too do this that can make everybody happy (bikes, quad's,and 4wheeler's)

The most important people we need to worry about are the DNR and F & W also the LEO people....everyone else will get along once somebody comes up with a plan that the listed parties can live with. JMO

I for one will work dillegency(sp) to try and make this work for everybody. Because if we can't get something to work--we are all kinda screwed...

One other thing David strongly stressed, was there is no possibilty of making "new" or redoing any trails at this point in time, because of the planning comittee and such. Right now Reiter is all "illegal" really. And if we are trying to make it an ORV area making any new trails right now or widening anything will be looked at very porrly at this time.

Just a word of caution:awesomework:

How about this: digging up the rock that sits atop the Poop Chute and getting it the hell out of the way. Yes, I realize it is enormous.

The steepness of the climb is not difficlt by any standards. It's the rock at the top that makes it difficult (for some), going up or down.

The problem with that hill mark--its very loose, you know that and removing a rock at top isn't going to work for anything but a short time fix.

Here is my theory on the road issue and this is what I told the DNR. The access from the main pit to the upper areas needs to be somewhat easy otherwise folks are not going to use it.

Hell even the trail that goes along reiter road is shitty. Very bumpy and that alone is enough to have people say screw it and head for the road from what I have seen.

So making access easy will really make people want to use it.

Everyone screwed? Or just the guys with the ORV's?

This is one of many reasons I wheel a street legal rig....way less hassles.

Guys with buggies = not screwed, they can make it up the Poop Chute and avoid the paved road.

Guys with street rigs = not screwed, they can drive on the road (mudflaps, fender flares and bumper heights allowing, of course)

So who actually is screwed?
