Remember, this happened rather fast. This isn't over a long period of time.

It wasn't just a *thunk*, then the engine quit. Even at 2000rpm, that probably went on for at least 30 seconds.

No offense at all - I've definitely been there. I killed a starter and some big wires -luckily no fire- in my first car by not hearing that it stayed engaged for (at least part) of a 15-minute drive home from work.

That's an expensive kid. It would of been cheaper to wear a rubber :redneck:

He makes more money than I do. Doesn't pay rent. Does take care of a couple bills so mom and dad have more money at the end of the month, so that's cool.

He paid for the downstairs remodel, where he now lives. He paid for this car, after someone hit his last one and totaled it. He's paying to have this one fixed, cash. He's saving up to buy his next one, cash.

He wants to buy the house we live in now when we're ready to move out. And he'll probably pay cash for it as well....

So, what were you saying....?

Now THAT is impressive....broke the cylinder wall....

I Digress...:booo: That's actually the cylinder head, not the wall (can't believe you didn't correct me on that JOOP!!!:redneck:)..... regardless, still impressive! :D
Harold, you do have a good kid---:awesomework:

Didn't really pay attention because the second picture I posted kinda looks like a crack in the cylinder wall.

Soo...

I don't suppose the block is thick enough around the cylinder to bore it, sleeve it, and slap a new head on?

I know there are what feels like holes in the wall, but where do you see the crack?

I would think that, if it wasn't for the block maybe having a crack, buying a sealed engine is faster and a better deal. If we didn't have to return it for the core, Wayne wanted to tear it apart to rebuild it just to see if he could.

Oh well. And who said I was whining?

Wow! I thought ive seen it bad with a thrown rod but this.... just wow... thanks for the pics though :awesomework:... from the looks of it though you might be better of with a used engine... but i could be wrong.

Here's what caught my attention. Might just be a reflection but kinda looks like a crack

From the shop:

It is just a reflection. The inside wall is scratched (as I mentioned) and so the only way to fix that is to completely tear it all apart and machine it. And rebuild it.

The replacement engine is cheaper...

I wonder what he's going to do with it anyway. I think he has to send the old one back as a core, but I know Wayne wants an engine to play with.... What better engine to play with than the one your just blew to bits and pieces...?

So, my son wants the old engine to try and learn more.

So, Eric, could I borrow your engine hoist? I'm gong to need it to get it out of my truck...

This should be an adventure. I see more tools in my future! And lots of greasy fingers too!
