OK i came in this morning and took the coils off front and rear now the front has a 200 lb on top and 175 lb on bottom and it still need to go down 3 inches. the rear has 250 lb on top and 250 lb on bottom and it need to drop 6 inches then i will have to drop the rear mount to level out the buggy after all that is done it will have 4 inches off shaft showing at ride hight. the front has almost everything on it weight wise excpt the bump stops and winch and water in the radiator. i guess the buggy is lighter then i thought but that is a good thing. is it better to have a heavy spring on top and a light spring on bottom or a light spring on top and a heavy spring on bottom or does it matter. if i can send the spring back then i will need some boxes i think p has some in his garage
I think you need to put the fronts in the rear and buy some 250/150 or 225/150 on the front. just a wild ass guess. I think 250/250 is way stiff for a rear.

the only reason i put the 250 on the rear is it was all i had i know it is to stiff. the front i think needs 150 x 175 at the most.p iknow the rear was temp that is why i said they will have to be lower that is the only way it will have the travel that it needs but that is only my 2 cents because i have never setup shocks before so this is new to me .i do now that it looks good with the shocks under the hood it's tight but it fits

It just needs the low rider kit now 8)

( B has been wearing that out so it kind seemed fitting in this discussion... his Heep is lookin nice btw )

I got him fingured out and it is gonna be nice and plush! I will post up specs later on but I worked it all out and am going over it with him tonight. I love doing research!

Here is the info on Joe's current setup:

Front
Distance between mounting points = 29.5 "
14" SAW CO Full Extension = 35.5"
14" SAW CO Full Compression = 21.5"
Current Up Travel = 8"
Current Down Travel = 6"
Spring Rate = 175lb/200lb
Combined Spring Rate = 93lb
Spring Sag = 6"
Sprung Weight per Corner = 558lb
Goal = Lower Front Ride Height by 3"

Rear
Distance between mounting points = 32.5"
14" SAW CO Full Extension = 35.5"
14" SAW CO Full Compression = 21.5"
Current Up Travel = 11"
Current Down Travel = 3"
Spring Rate = 250lb/250lb
Combined Spring Rate = 125lb
Spring Sag = 3"
Sprung Weight per Corner = 375lb (Not including Gas, Tools, Spare Parts, etc. so I estimated the new sprung weight at 425lbs)
Goal = Lower Rear Ride Height by 6"

Based on the numbers I found for Joe's axles and tires he will be 1300lbs unsprung front and 1100 lbs unsprung rear. Take that with the sprung weights and the buggy should weigh out around ~4366 lbs ;D

Well Joe got lucky because his buggy is almost the same setup and sprung weight as Eric D Lux on PBB, who is close to a coilover expert. He has put his buggy through 5 rounds of spring and valving changes and he has it dialed in. Based on that, this is what came up with for Joe...

Proposed Setup
Front

Distance between mounting points = 26.5"
14" SAW CO Full Extension = 35.5"
14" SAW CO Full Compression = 21.5"
Current Up Travel = 5"
Current Down Travel = 9"
Spring Rate = 100lb/400lb (12" upper, 14" lower)
Combined Spring Rate = 80lb
Spring Sag = 6.975"
Sprung Weight per Corner = 558lb
Changes = 2" shorter top spring and ~1" more spring sag = 3" lower ride height

Rear
Distance between mounting points = 26.5"
14" SAW CO Full Extension = 35.5"
14" SAW CO Full Compression = 21.5"
Current Up Travel = 5"
Current Down Travel = 9"
Spring Rate = 150lb/250lb (12" upper, 14" lower)
Combined Spring Rate = 94lb
Spring Sag = 4.5"
Sprung Weight per Corner = 375lb (With Gas, Tools, Spares, etc. new rate will be ~425lb)
Changes = 2" shorter top spring and ~1.5" more spring sag = 3.5" lower ride height (Lowering the mounts by 2.5" will be required)

Thanks for the research Matt ( why we asked you to begin with ) I just dont seem to have time anymore for that in depth of a scenario. I knew you had gone through it on yours in the rear and felt confident youd get our boy Joe all fingered out. Nicely done man !! Joe is calling the coil dood today, I spoke with him this morning and gave him the # I CANNOT wait to see this thing that much closer to getting tore back apart for paint. GEEBUS this thing is coming along nicely !! Should be in the woods in a few months time no sweat !!

Joe, you back in town ? Any word? I know you had a guy injuried or something at work so your probably swamped. Let us know how it goes nad let me know what you need.

i worked on the dash and the floor today mounted the gauges, switches, transfercase shifters i tried to post pictures but the web site is not working

Joe email me the pics and I will try...

If you need help working you need to call me, I live off 41 for the next 9 months and that is not far from you. I went to Phil and Pammy's last night and watched TK cut Pam's fenders off!!! Give me a shout dude.

thanks matt i will take you up on that i am tired of working on it and ready to ride so from now on it is not going to be perfect it's going to be fast and finish the floor and the dash look ok but it's good enough :flipoff1:

how are those shifters to reach if you have the shoulders harnesses on? I made the mistake on my first version of the sheep of putting the switches within reach......if I didn't have my shoulders on. I rolled twice with the harnesses on and couldn't shut it down. Just wondering if you can rear disco if you get in some high speed xrra type **** with the shoulders on and need to not be reaching a mile.
I love the dash. now I want mine ot be finished dammit

Right on man... weres the gas pedal ? Is there clearance issue on that, It sure seemed tight on that when you didnt have the tunnel over the tranny.

gas petal is going to be moved to the left a little after the floor was finished it was to low so i am moving it over and up but that is a easy fix. i need to mount my bump stops and finish the rear coilover mounts, finish the last two peices off sheet metal on the rear, put seat belt mounts in, finish the inter front seat mounts, put in limit strap mounts in and it can be tore down for paint. i am sure a forgot a few things like a cb mount and radio mount but it's getting close
