I texted RickyB about this today. There is no HL group on FB...can there be one? Should there be one? I am for it. Thoughts?

I thought about that, but you will always have members who are and who are not on FB...it should survive.

there is a "hardline offroad club" on FB , I understand it has no affiliation with this forum

It looks like Ricky hasn't been on this forum since October .. what would be the draw to starting one ?

For those people who don't get on here much, but do use FB and visa versa. I think it would be a good thing, more traffic for both I would imagine. Also might help putting names to faces and faces to rigs.

I use FB and Instagram dang near exclusive. I think the majority of people on HL are already connected on Social Media is it needed to have a FB Hardline Crawlers ? It will kill build threads and tech even worse than we've already seen, myself and a few guys up here went through this exact same progression and killed a forum before it could even take off by putting a FB page together. You get alot of Lookers and no real participation. You have hundreds of members on a page and none know or care to know one another in any regard. Just my .02

Don't we make a collective decision before running out a copyrighted logo and page ?

IMO - Hardline facebook page is dumb. I would have it removed ASAP. Social media is literally the reason why forums are dieing.

I appreciate all of the input. Guys, the forum is not going anywhere. Not everyone has to be on FB or the HL page on FB. It is simply a easier way to post pictures and announce rides.

The forum is not going anywhere so lets go around it. That seems like it defeats the purpose.

Guys, after re reading these post and talking to some members I will not continue the FB group. I hear the concerns and had the best of intentions. No hard feelings, I have none either. Look forward to the upcoming ride and meeting more and more of y'all face to face around the campfire.

Forums ARE social media.
Forums killed email groups
email groups killed list servs
list servs killed chat rooms
chat rooms killed ICQ's

Come on guys.

This "club" either needs to **** or get off the pot. But holding this PUBLIC forum hostage in the manner that it has been held now for years is unreasonable.
Either allow all those damn outsiders, who have paid GOOD MONEY during times of donations to keep this site as well as other charities afloat, let them IN to the "club"... or close the public forum down.
Either way... one of those things needs to happen, because TRUST ME... the small handful of you guy (and I truly love y'all) have pissed pretty much everyone off who's done their damndest to give y'all every benefit of every doubt. I truly consider y'all friends. But this **** is childish.

And by the way... I haven't been on the forum on months... I came in here because of a post on FaceBook.

I would like to know who you are talking about?

Eric, I nominated you the mayor of facebook. I enjoy watching your post they tickle me. But you cant show up here 4 times a years think your opinion is anymore relevant than anyone else's.

If you want people to give a damn what you think about merging the two and what is best for the forum, why dont you post on the forum more. Yeah your stardom may carry some weight and get you plenty of likes. Hell it may get you some pats on the back here. Unfortunately none of that means **** to me or 95% of the faithful participants if you aren't here trying to make things better instead of name calling once every quarter.

Dont take that personal. Come on back if you want to make a difference. Lead by example.

I am not speaking for Eric, however here is my take:

Posting pictures is very hard. Photobucket going down didn't help.
I have tried TapTalk..I don't get it..its very hard for me
I cant even post on HL from my iPhone which means only from my Mac at home..not much gonna be posted if I have to go to this desk every time I want to post.
FB and invites with ical are the way to go. Example: there is a ride, post it up, click yes I'm going or no, see who is and its added to your iPhone ical
On FB, putting a NAME to a FACE and a FACE to a rig is easy. On here we have screen names. Its very difficult to know who is who.

I am not suggesting this as a move. Its not a move. A forum is a forum. Don't believe me? Pirate4x4 is on FB and the forum is still around. USA Today still has a paper and its on FB. Look around, a little progress is not a bad thing.

I keep hearing that. this member or that member doesn't post or isn't around. Did anyone every wonder why? They haven't left the 4wheeling world. They still are around. It is just not very easy to poke around. Think back to what Eric said above. Back in the day we had dial up, then something faster came up..we stopped using dial up now we use faster ****. This forum sometimes feels like that and that is no knock on the forum or those who contribute. A little change is not bad.

As Kush mentioned last night:
"Duddde. That blows. My phone sucks on the site.. bad. This **** is easy
I understand not wanting to take away from the site.. but it would cool to have a group on here with all the same guys. I miss Fukin around with everyone on the site.. but now that I work my ass off I don't have time to get on the site all day.. that **** takes way to long... ????"

I'm confused why you can't post from your phone?
I've always looked at this site on my iPhone through safari. I don't even own a computer.
Tapatalk does suck.
I made the "show replies to your post" an icon on my home page of my phone. Tap it get a quick update and back to life, if I have time I hit show unread post.

Me too. I am able to upload photos from my phone to the site also.

I disagree with you there.

As far as the Hardline "club", they used to have meetings. I'm not sure if they do anymore. They hosted this forum and allowed outsiders (like us) to get involved. It's their forum, they aren't holding **** hostage. If you don't like it, go start your own forum or social media platform.

I've personally tried to post more tech/ builds and will do more as things come along. Tech is really the only reason I got involved with pirate or hardline.

I'd much rather use the forum for tech and info in general than facebook. Things seem to get lost in the FB bull **** in my opinion.

BINGO it's damn near impossible to update or maintain a build or tech conversation on FB.

I'm glad this is being discussed honestly and openly. It's long over due. The forum is plagued with issues, as far as the Club I also agree it hasn't evolved and that needs to be addressed. Yes we all used to be tight, have meetings and rides monthly and the OGs have not done it for years.
As far as being held hostage, Eric of anyone I would have never expected that from you. If you want to get brutal honest, JohnG held Hardline , forum and Club as his baby for many many years and I dont mean that in any I'll willed way at all it's just fact. Because he cared that much about it, as most anyone OG Club or OG forum member does.
From DAY 1 , all of us have tried to have open conversation on how to move things along. Unfortunately the Club isn't involved like it once was and all but a few even care about the forum until $ gets brought up.
