Little Gibby's 45 MB

Just razzing ya. I keep a collection of caps and plugs just for that sort of thing the ram internals are pretty durable but as you know any dirt or grime will gall the fitting and cause a leak. Looks like this Guy is in good hands.

Carry on.:corn:

I got a new PC out in the shop and will work on trying to get that going. But I get back to it friday evening.....

Ok got the shop scrubbed down/cleaned..

Started by looking over the new AA bellhousing and making sure its right---sure looks like it. Ya wanna know how to lighten up an SM465---replace the cast/steel bellhousing.

gmb237.jpg

Went and polished the tranny/bellhousing surface and made sure the pilot bearing that came with it was right--yuppers.

gmb238.jpg

So I looked over the surface and found the tranny top overlaps the bellhousing surface a tad. With the stock bellhousing that was not an issue as the bellhousing stopped before it and the new AA one does not.

gmb239.jpg

Thats not a big issue but I will have to pop the top off the tranny and grind that area down and reinstall it. So that will be my morning prodject before we head to the sultan shindig.

I also have to research farther on the clutch part of it but I can still assemble the trans to the motor and continue moving forward hopefully with very little stops.

But for the clutch slave it suggests using a toy FJ slave. I am not sure if the bellhousing is made(mounting wise) for it but the clutch fork is very simular the one in my rig.

Ok got the top of the tranny popped off and did a quick inspection. There are a few small rust spots but nothing I would even worry about.

gmb240.jpg

The new AA bellhousing comes configured with all 4 mounting holes threaded. This sm465 the lower 2 holes on the tranny bolt to the bellhousing and the 2 upper bolt to the tranny. So to fix this I simply drilled out the threads on the upper holes.

gmb241.jpg

Walla bolted to the tranny. I have to get new bolts for the lower holes since the bellhousing is thicker than the stocker.

gmb242.jpg

Got the cover ground down and fitted and reinstalled.

gmb243.jpg

Got the tranny carted back under the rig and got the motor dropped down into place and then bolted the tranny up to the motor.(minus the flywheel/clutch/pilot bearing for ease)

gmb244.jpg

Now the fun begins. So I did some moving/measureing and have come to the conclusing the motor needs to go forward 1", down 1/2" and to the passenger side 1/2". These are just rough figures as I have to do some work to get the tranny/t-case to fit up into the rig a little better.

So I have to trim some off around the top of the tranny and rework some sheetmetal at the top of the t-case.

gmb245.jpg

So in the morning I will pull the tranny back out and do some sheet metal work

No updated pics from yesterday. Just pulling/installing the trans. But damn I felt like I was working on dales runner--pounding on the tub and **** was falling off on me :haha:

So I got the floor modified to get the t-case where I want it. So I pulled the motor back out and removed the mounts off the frame.

gmb246.jpg

And got the motor tossed back in/bolted to the trans and getting the motor into place to build the new mounts on the frame.

gmb247.jpg

Ok I am poking thru it as time allows.

Here are the old mounts that I whacked off the frame.

gmb248.jpg

Here is the start of the new mounts I am making. Since the motor is a little lower and a tad more forward there is no longer a straight shot from the bottom of the mount to the frame rail. Thats the reason for the bend in the bottom portion of the new mount footing.

gmb249.jpg

Got them trimmed and tacked into place. Next was to do the side supports and got them tacked into place. So now the motor is ready to come back out so I can fully weld them up and progress forward.

gmb250.jpg

So doing some reading and looks like we will need a conversion clutch and of course the only thing AA shows is part numbers for centerforce stuff.

Also trying to figure out what clutch master/slave to run. But as of right now its looking like FJ stuff will be the key...

In any case still moving forward...

So the new mounts are welded in and painted

gmb252.jpg

Got the motor back in and bolted to the tranny and checked fitment. I really like how the motor sits now..

gmb253.jpg

Got the back half supported and in place and now time to figure out a cross member--its going to be tight and tricky..

gmb254.jpg

I also started eyeballing placement for the cross supports for the fenders and I have a few ideas but I will wait till the crossmember is done.

Here is some research for ya dale.

Ok here are the centerforce clutch numbers

  1. pressure plate -- CF360056
  2. clutch disk -- 383271
  3. Throw out bearing -- N1430
Still working on the hydro side of it. I know we will be using an FJ slave and master. I just need to nail down the year range so we can get it someplace other than thru AA..

Clutch parts shipped out today.

It's so strange to think that I am ordering car parts through Amazon.com...

No ****--wow. I would have never thought

I can make anything fit--just a matter how much work to do so. IMO I put those seats in Sam's 4 runner and I was not impressed.

If anything dale I would order the covers for the seats that are in there and get some 1" thick foam and pad them. Thats how mine have been for probably 5 years and I can be in my rig for hours and never have any pains.. Just something to think about....

Oh and to add if I get time I will get the measurements on the rad or try the one we need. I was looking at that part of it and I might lop that front crossmember out so we can get a taller rad in there. But I will first see what we can get with how its configured now.

Still poking on the rear crossmember. I haven't come up with anything I like yet...

If you can pick up a set of those seats CHEAP Dale they are worth it but otherwise not really a super great seat and pretty darn wide up towards your head so in the small rig it would be a tighter squeeze just FYI
