Little Gibby's 45 MB

Ok so I finally got my new laptop all fixed up and now able to handle my pictures..

So I cleaned all the stored goods out of the lil thing and drug it back over into the shop--Ya I almolst OD'd on java--but I pulled thru:awesomework:

So my first task it to figure out what the heck is up with the motor. So I ahd to drag the engine hoist out and put the thing together since I am only able to bench press 300'lbs and this was a tad heavier(lol)...

And let me tell ya--this thing did not want to come out---It was really stuck to the bell housing but I finally won after 15 m80's :redneck:

So I first decided to pull the pan and for some reason the crank just isn't able to rotate..

Now this is where things get odd. Now I was only able to rotate the motor over maybe 2 revolutions back when I started the rig--What I found made zero sense to me...

The first 2 pics are #2 #3 main bearing and the last is the last bearing

So as far as I can tell the crank will either need polished or turned (going out on friday) and dale wants to change the cam so that will take care of the water damage to the lifters... But the rest looks to be ok--I will have to clean the block up real good but it should be good to go.

WOW. I think we got scammed on the engine rebuild. This engine had a complete rebuilt and has never been run.

And that what boggles me dale. Now I could see some scoring of the babbit on the bearings with how the crank looked when I removed it with how very little I rotated it--but not what I saw. I had to sit there and look at it to make sure I was not seeing things. It just did not make any sense to me--ya I was baffeled

National Auto in Sumner did the rebuild. It's the big yellow building at the end of Main St., won't go there again. :eeek:

Ive seen that kind of damage to bearings after the shop used 10 under bearings on a standard crank....

That one cost me, last time I ever used that shop....

Typicly all the babbit will be gone if thats the case and all you will see it copper...

if its a new rebuild with 0 miles, how did the crank bearings get worn? did they just hot tank your old motor and paint it then give it back? sounds a little too fishy, even for national.:booo:

if this is a 0 mile engine, it looks like it was started with no oil?

what kind of wear does the cylinders have, do they look new?

so whos the sucker, gibby or jaydog? I have never heard anything bad about national, kinda weird?:eeek:

The cylinders have new hone marks--so it was done. The camshaft bearings also looked new.. From what I could tell it was done...

thats strange. the rods and pistons and crank had to be removed to hone/bore the block. how do the rod journals look? does it look like it has been fired at all? even shortly, did the cam have assembly lube still or had it been washed away? do you think it had been test fired?

No it has never been fired. I don't think sucker would be a good term, I have never disassembled an engine that I have had rebuilt just to check the job, I assumed that National, having their own machine shop, and having been in business a long time, that I wouldn't have to check their work, I would expect this out of someones garage or backyard, but not with them. I'm trying to find the paperwork, but it has been three+ yrs since it was done.

It was never test fired. Jaydog and I finished putting on the intake, carb etc. We didn't even put the distributor in it. It's never been hooked to fuel even.

I would find that paper work and see what they billed for related to the crank. bummer deal:booo:
