Oneal, any updates on the Caddy on Dubs?

I think it all depends on the driver.

West coast crawling I think that they will last. (not desert racing, crawling) or they have a better chance at least. :flipgotcha:
East Coast rock bouncing :eek:not going to make it long term.

Waiting for Joelzan to swoop in and defend Nolen's honor :flipoff1:

I think with the way Steven likes to throttle down it is only a matter of time before they have a bad failure. Al is easier on it though, so it may last with him driving !

JoelZan ! laughing1 thats a good one bro , we need to change his sign-on ! molaugh

While I admit that my personal jury is still out on the unit bearings, testing has proven that quality unit bearings will take all the abuse you can throw at them.

What makes you have your opinion on them being weak?

Weak, no. I am with you; strength is still somewhat unknown, other than them holding up thousands of trucks up to F550's and 5500's plus previous comp experience. I am currently building a unit bearing front D60 for my Tj and have unit bearings in the back 9" on the badlands car. That being said, I would fear of an epic failure on a rock racer or KOH type rig. A bearing failure would be much quicker and easier to fix, but are they more common? Obviously, most competitors are now choosing to forgo the potential strength increase for lightweight and servicability.

Oneal, don't cover up too much with a body, that rig looks awesome nekkid. What color powder coat? Flat FJ40ish panels?

Yes, I kinda have a thing for that "car."

again....like the hi9

Jog my memory, but didn't you blow up several HI-9's and end up switching to a different rear axle (trying to remember old PBB post)? :dunno:
How much HP? What axle did you switch to? Your rig is around 3,500 lbs, I assume.

yes yes and yes.
he is saying that units are great like Hi 9's, they last in comps, last in most all trail rigs, but in a 500 horse rig with sticky tires and a guy that actually like to "bump it" :woody: laughing1 not so much. prob the same with the portals, but I still think the portals are ****ing cool. I hope they are proven strong as balls, although I'll never drop coin on them. not worth it IMO. ****, JR makes stock 404's last with that motor, girdles and the right oil. You can break anything, ask greg :woody:

Yes a LP9", HP60 front. My point was a few couple of minute runs once a month or so and anything will seem to hold up. Go trail ride a lot, use the throttle and stuff starts breaking. The re-build of my buggy addressed most every problem area I had over the last couple years, problems that most people would've never experienced from competing or trail riding several times a year.

There was a company at SEMA that was making portal boxes, it wasn't portal tek. This company had been making heavy truck axles and was just branching off into the portal business. These things were beef compared to most other portals I've seen, they used D60 axles joints on the shafts not the d44 joints like the others I've seen. They looked like really nice units.

Also remember that ALOT of times at comps people do break stuff - you just will never hear about it and they have a spare in before you know it.

P fancies himself as the "anti-Nolen" poster here on Hardline.

He has a real hard-on for me......never really understood why, but I mostly ignore him.

Today, however, I would like to send out a nice big **** YOU to him.

That is all.
