More progress / regress. The more I take off the more I see just how trashed the frame got. Its hard to see in the pics but the rear half of the frame is about 1" out of line with the front. also found several more cracks and the rear tranny mount was broken:booo: Picking up a new postal frame to start over with this weekend. Started gathering parts for the suspension. New heavy duty front hangers and the rear will be outboard and going soa.:cheer:

Time to build a buggy Jim...that's what everyone else is doing :corn:

When's the yard sale :fawkdancesmiley:

Wheras the whole buggy thing has its attractions I still like haveing a street legal rig. And since when am I one to do things just because everyone else is:haha: Yard sale is coming up soon:awesomework:

Jim,

Somewhere in the recesses of my brain I recall that postals are wider than late model CJ frames. Might want to measure widths before going too far in outboarding them springs. Also, with the narrow(er) track CJ axles, will you even have room to outboard?

Several of the guys in our club use the postals under their flattys. I havent actualy measured the width but I will be doing a lot of measuring when the frames are side by side. The postal is also already outboarded in the rear. Also toying around with building a new rear end, (44 hp) so if needed I could make it a little wider.

Do you still have that 44 housing?

Sorry, that housing is loooonng gone. Regarding the outboarding of postals, remember that the postal D44s are wider than the housing you had (and if I recall correctly) wider than the 86 CJ D44 also. Plus, the CJ style D44 had equal length axles, but an offset pinion. The postal D44 had a centered pinion, but unequal length axles.

And DO NOT build a high pinion D44. In my lowly opinion, it is too weak for wheeling.

Tony

And for what it's worth, I could easily be wrong on that stuff because it's reaaallly old info from my brain.

Dude we need to talk..44:wtf:

wake up you old man.. I mean old skool man

let me put it this way... Since I have known you, you have broke more 60 parts than I have ever broken 44 parts:eeek: Something tells me its not a problem with the axle itself but maybe a driver issue:haha:
