Sorry, being positive is not my strong point. But thinking like a retard that wants in to somewhere he is forbidden is a strong point.

What about the guy who is very capable due to a well built rig, and fancy footwork, who is only running a 35, or 36 on a short wheelbase rig. By time you drop to 3 or 4 pounds you don't have too much clearance. But like was stated before fancy footwork, and a little aggression can go a long way with a well built rig.

I would rather see a more natural yet very difficult gatekeeper that didn't eliminate someone due solely to tire size.

As stated in Eric's explanation of the gatekeeper:

"My thoughts are to make something that can be beat hard and not care. If you cant drive thru the gate keeper easily but you have the skill to make it with fancy driving the you should be allowed in."

I believe building with steel was a thought for structure that could not be easily vandalized.

this sounds like a good idea to me.

FWIW I would use tube steel and fill it with concrete so tweekers don't scrap it......

You have a very good point there. No filing it with gold.


This is just an idea. The axle hight may also be that you dont want a d30 on 35s in there. Its not going to survive.


The idea is to keep the stock rig out of complete destruction. If they cant get in that trail they will just go on to the next one that they should be on.

The problem I have with the design is it looks like its sole purpose is to deny smaller, or extremely aired down tire guys from entering, while some jackass with 38's in a stock open front, and rear rig can just drive right in. I wheeled circles around a lot of rigs with bigger tires than I have. I don't mind banging my pumpins every now, and then. Sometimes you just gotta get a little kinky with your lines, but I am almost never denied any section of trail becouse of axle clearance. Deep muddy channels on the Busy, on occasion, but I didn't think these trails were gonna be deep cut channels of mud. If you guys are going to go for these un-natural gatekeepers for the big tire club members, then perhaps you should think of adding other features to the gate keeper, like make it lean your rig into a pipe that will dent, and scratch your rig. This will keep out the pretty boys. How about a gate keeper that is almost vertical, and over 100 inches so that short wheelbases will tip over while trying to enter. How about a gatekeeper with a series 8 inch boulders you are required to drive over at 25 mph, so any crappy rigs will fall apart before entering the trail. How 'bout an eye exam gatekeeper, or an I.Q. gatekeeper. (sorry dude your just too stupid for this trail..) Just sayin' There is a lot that goes into wheelin'. There's usually not any one thing that keeps you from getting thru a trail. Usually it is a multitude of things, and if you are wheelin' with a good group of capable rigs you know each others weak spots, and can get thru just about anything in relatively short order. I still contend that natural gatekeepers are better, becouse I might have the will, and or the forsight to see a way thru that the next guy doesn't, and that will, and forsight is going to carry thru the trail.

Good points Ty. And good ideas. (sarcastic ass mother ****er:redneck:) I can see using bits and pieces from all ideas to not only make gatekeeper's for the entrance........but also these ideas are useful for the trail itself. The ideas for gate keepers are in turn ideas for the trail/obstacles.

May 16th we'll be able to view the actual ground we're building trails on. Idea's and route will be more clear after then.

Meh, I guess I am scarred from all the years I had to what before I was tall enough to do the bumper cars at the fair, knowing full well I could drive circles around those bigger kids. I'm just a bitter midget.
 
You are a perfect example of where the "techs" may not be correct. Limiting tire size, width, wheelbase, etc. But we can never address the real issue, the people issue........vehicles are not necessarily a limiting factor. And in turn, some dude in a new buggy isn't necessarily a skilled driver.

In a perfect world, there would be personal skill ratings........but, ya right.:rolleyes:

In order to rate a trail, there must be limitations set, these limitations will be numbers and measurements. Just the way it is.......and it's not like there will be guard on duty. ****! do what I do......"put your tire's on it"......see if you can make it (whatever "it" is).:awesomework:Better drivers will prove that the limitations set forth, aren't limitations of their skill.:;

Ty you are the .01% that might make it and that should be allowed. 90% of the trails you will drive and have fun on. 9% you will have drive and be challenged to the max and the 1% is made for you won
