Reiter Map from focus meeting

I know you are. And i respect that. I just want to see you be as tough on the DNR as you are on those that jeopardize the reopening of what ever it is they dangle in front of our noses.

We are as tough as we can be. There is that fine line of making sure your getting your point across and still continuing a working relationship.

One thing to remember too J is there are a number of guys here who are not in any organized groups who to also make sure the DNR knows there take on it and still continue a relationship with the DNR.

Pissing them off only deters what we are trying to accomplish---wheeling...

Here's my take on the restoration work and I'm the most sceptical person around on this subject so take it for what it's worth.........
The restoration work is being done in areas where there will definately not be any trails. There is no guarantee that there will be any return for the work done. Some people just like to get out in the woods for a day and help out. Maybe it's because they meet up with friends, maybe they want to meet new people and gossip about how fuct up or (other) the current situation is. Myself I'm used to getting up early in the morning on weekends and getting out in the woods. I just like to be out there and I don't mind a little hard work. In any case whatever the reason may be for volunteering, one thing for sure is it will definately not hurt anything to restore these areas. If anyone wants to help then more power to them, who really cares?
If anyone doesn't want to help then they should find something else to do.
Seems so simple to me.:cheer:

+100000 :awesomework: :awesomework:

In fact, take it one step further... the only reason why we MIGHT get any part of Reiter open, or keep Walker open, or open an eventual new park will be because of the efforts at Reiter and Walker currently. It might seem like we're giving, giving, giving, but if we're to get any headway with DNR, we have to pay our dues.

That said, I still don't think DNR can manage an ORV park. History has somewhat proven that. But I think our current efforts are helping us cement a relationship with them for new endeavors.

Well said rick

Any day out workin in the woods is FAR better than any day at work,,,

Any hard evidence that a company is REALLY designing new trails?

:haha:

If you're gonna :stirpot: at least get your facts straight man.

The clueless and uninformed are the most dangerous.........to the ORV community. You should PM me so we can set things straight.:awesomework:

Take your XJ offroad and let the folks in the know :stirpot:

:;

The big picture is that it probably won't support the traffic and have a thousand bootleg trails in a few years, I hate to rain on the parade but that is just a fact that is being overlooked, If there are not enough trail systems to support the regional ORV's then they will find their own places to wheel I guarantee it. I am all for working with the DNR, but seriously, somebody needs to let these folks know what they are in for, because people aren't going to stop wheeling. :;

So let me get this straight.......You seemed to be one of the nay-sayers of Reiter's re-opening. Yet now you agree it will be re-opened and long enough that there will be 1000 new trails.:eeek: I think you lost your dog, Jay.:flipoff:

Evans, Elbe and Walker see a bit of trail bootlegging........so you're not telling us anything new there buddy. :; The issue of following the rules is a people problem. People aren't going away, so this will ALWAYS be an issue.........at Reiter and everywhere else.

But you are guaranteeing it, so I'm sold.

So if Reiter is closed to motor use why are motorcycles up there. Went hiking up there and saw 15 to 20 motorcycles. WTF! .
.....
I think that we did get the raw end of the deal.
.....
If its reopens we will see this and the greenies will just close it again.

You're letting your emotions get the better of you. I feel the same way.......I act appropriately.....most of the time.:redneck:

Stop worrying about the bike guys.........we're not the bike guys.:awesomework: Focus, focus, focus.

And......So in your mind you have closed Reiter, re-opened it and then closed it again? Lets just take things one step at a time.

PS - I saw you called earlier.......I was out "doing stuff". We'll talk soon.......I have news.:cheer:

I think we all need to dust off the "How to Debate" book.:beatdeadhorse:

Look at it this way. Worst case scenerio. If we restore the old trails to their natural squirrel habitate state. Then DNR screws us on the new Reiter. Just think of how much more fun it will be wheelin' all the old trails with all of the new obsticles.

I've always preferred raping single track trails.:stirpot:

No, I am not a naysayer, I truly believe it will be re-opened, What I am saying is that I think it will re open with less than half of the trail mileage that it had, Common sense says that if you have the same amount of people using the same park with half the trails then you will have problems, my gripe isn't with any of the ORV people, I think what everyone doing is great. What I am getting at is the fact that this is an illogical plan, and I wonder if anyone has sat down with the DNR folks and explained to them in plain terms the potential of what will happen.

Yes, the current ORV areas have some bootleg trails on a really small scale, but none of them have been closed, and then later re-opened with half of the trail mileage, it seems pretty easy to understand to me, but then logical thinking is one of my better attributes :D

On another note, I am in now way endorsing bootleg trails, nor am I against the restoration plan, I think it is good that folks are willing to go out and help the DNR, like I have stated before, if nothing else at least it puts the "users" in a good light, I just don't think that the DNR is prepared for what is going to happen.

Quality over quanity :awesomework:

I agree that would be great, but I am willing to bet they designate it categorically like Elbe, and a certain percentage of trails for each of the four groups, easy, mild, difficult, and extreme, so out of the "new" trails what percentage of them will be as hard as the original trail system? 50% maybe, IDK, but that seems like a logical answer, so you have a trail system reduced 50%, and then half of that 50% will represent what was lost. So realistically you cold end up with 5,000 wheelers jammed into two miles of trail. Hopefully I'm wrong though. :D

Thats not what we are pushing hard for :awesomework:

I think we have done a good job grinding into the DNR the fact we want hard technical trails.

One thing you have to remember that reiter was known for it and its very diverse in its landscape.
