• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

shackle angle

If this were my truck, I would move the front spring hanger forward about 2". This would solve the shackle angle problem, create more clearance between the fender edge/tire, and lengthen the front driveline. Bumpstops and limiting straps will keep the shocks and springs from overtraveling.

X2 I usally like to keep the shackle (at rest) about where you have it in the second pic on page 2

I would guess not as his tire is like a whole 20" off the ground......

When I set up leafs I hang the spring's, set the shackle straight up and down at droop, wherever it end's up ride height oh well, usually a little shy of 45 degrees depending on the spring. Another problem with laying the shackle's back super far is that it allow's your front end to walk way out in front of the truck when you are climbing (moving even further from the tcase), causing you driveline to fall apart, and also causing the pinion to dive even farther down, causing the driveline to bind. It's only leaf's....... there is only so much you can do.

im ****ed then

my shackles are laid pretty far back. 45*, i guess it isnt too bad, we will see :redneck:

It's my preference too, and how I set up shackles on my own stuff, but seeing as how I've worked for shop's building stuff for people that past 5 year's, the "right way" at work, and "my way" are 2 slightly different things.:awesomework:

That is the method I've arrived at as well. It does not, I don't believe, produce an ideal angle for street stability, but it maximizes flex. We're talking about WHEELING here, right?

Just to clarify, shackle angle becomes a function of shackle length. You set up your mounts like described above, then cut/drill shackles to dial in the angle. If they lay back too far, just make 'em a little longer.

Thats pretty much how mine are and I haven't had any issuses.

so my shackles hitting the frame when i flex is ok:eeek: . that dont make sence to me. mine hit just driving down the road.

im going to go ahead and move the hanger forward and get more around 45*. then see how it does.

If it is just touching the frame when the spring reaches totally flat......run it.

what front springs are you running? if your shackle are hitting your frame when you are driving down the street them you should move your hanger forward, having said that are your springs basicly new?

no he still probally wont move the front end foward anyways.:booo:

chop shop you are absolutley correct. thats why i just went out and bought a new hanger. and yes im new to leafs. thats why i ask to get the other peoples opinion. i tried the longer shackle with no change in angle so now i am moving the hanger. so keep your stupid comments in the chatter box:flipoff:
