Been tryin to edubacate myself on what is the best route suspension wise for me in this dealio. Im starting to lean heavily towards shorty coilovers for 2 reasons. Price is good and I think it will handle alot better if I do some link suspension magic on it. I want to be able to drive this thing down the highway comfrotable , and after the Bucket and suicide mono leaf front suspension ride, even though that looks "more official" Im just not down with riding like ****, i want to ENJOY riding in this when its done. thumb.gif

Im thinking a 4" drop front straight axle 49-54 chevy variety with machined spindles to accept Mustang II hubs and rotors. Linked on 10 or 11" cheap coilovers.

Rear linked 9" welded ( no ****... peel out rig remember.. LOL ) on 11-to 12 cheapy coilovers.

Here's my question = to some of you guys that are more versed in old street rod stuff. Can I get a reasonably low setup out of this without to many issues ( worst case Ill body drop to cover up the chassis and suspension as best as possible )

Up front, what kind of considerations for steering do I need to be thinking about.. Do the older spindles ( 49-54 chevy ) need to be some sort of push pull or what ? Steering I have not looked into at all just yet :dunno:

I will see this again and run down the owner, trust me.

Man, I realy love the idea of the top stayin on it and lookin like what you picture Bones, I HATE bodywork though and keep talkin myself out of what it will take for this cab to have a top on it... (a damn lot of work )

Im leanin more nad more towards no hood, Not sure on the frontend, I like the "cut-down" grille rendered above and had thought of that ( Im weird about front ends, I like that resemblence of its original self ) I dig it and wonder how well finished it could be made to look. Again, more work and time that I just need to get used to if I want "the look" that im going for starting with such a large bodied truck .

Great pics and ideas though, thanks for throwing those up !! :afro: My wheels have turned pretty heavy on this thing now that I can see it daily and touch its rusty bumpy sheetmetal !! drool

laughing1 I didnt say I couldnt do the top, but damn she's rough as piss ... you know that. I hate body work and then you throw in the rusted as **** "seam" in the back. I agree though, it needs the top, It needs that 5 window pimp appeal. I love the height the windshield has on it too, the front of this cab is pimp looking fo-sho.

I guess I gotta do the top, as much as Im going to piss and moan about it thats the thing to do to get that look I want.

I want to find a grille off of one and cut it down like the blue one pictured, that was my original thought and seeing it drawn out like that it just looks cool. I was thinking narrowed like that but WITH a hood and no fenders, trim hood to look cool on it. Im not thrilled with an uncovered engine , Ill have to think on that more. Wyatt, your the " cool " old parts guy. What should I be looking for or were should I be looking for LARGE old round headlights off the side. I almost nutted on your dads big caddi lights, I know that will be outta touch for me so what other options are there ?

Im still thinking coilovers all around.... sorry man, I just dig that **** to much and want it to drive well, maybe HB will wanna cruise it to school here and there. molaugh

i have a 3 window cab you can have if you bring me my heater.... i am pretty sure the bottom is missing, but the top is solid, i think... if its worth it to you i will go look at it, if not im to f'in lazy.... :flipoff1:

I love you jimmy , laughing1

Seriously though, if oyu have a somewhat damaged or poor condition grille that I could cut down Id be on that like stinky stinky. I need a hood, I also need a glove box door and really thats about all I want sheetmetal wise :afro:

hell if it has door hinges and a glovebox door you're ahead Paul.

Ah ****, I forgot about keeping the top on, **** ill need hinges.

Id like to have em suicide if I keep doors... drool

May be going that S10 thing...... Ill still link the rear, but that pretty much solves the front suspension and steerin issue.

Its going to also make it look REALLY weird I think with no damn Fenders... S10 frames are far from nice to look at, but damn i could be driving it quick as hell compared to building a chassis and all that mess. Plus the $$ factor would still be ridiculously low cost on this entire project, which is the real goal. :afro:

WERD up to my man with the plan, you know who you are!! Nice score SON !

Cut all of the IFS off and make you a front axle. Old school style. Would look alot better and you could run no fenders.

Once I get into the actual build part of this, and we see how the "free" frame works out or falls through. I can focus a little more on which route to go.

It went from no top, tube chassis P built to All skin's on an S10 frame just in online conception ! laughing1
