• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

The Barn 4x4's first buggy

I already have 30 spline longs in the front, and I am about to order the same for the rear. I have beat on the front ones hard and have had no failures.

So I know I have changed my mind a thousand times already, but I was starring at the fenders on my now defunked 85 pickup and I really like the way they look. So a buddy of mine picked up a set he found for cheap today, and I think we have a winner. I didn't build this chassis with the intent to use a yota front clip, but is sure fits nice. I will knock out the front tube work over the weekend now that I know for sure what I want to do. After I get the fenders where they will go, we will trim down the hood and cowl to fit the dash tube and fenders.

Chassis is sitting at full bump. I am going to shorten up the rear wb by 8" or so also. The rear axle is just hanging out there.

I have given up my search for a factory 2 piece drive shaft for my front drive line, so I am going to make my own. I went to tractor supply today once I realized that the OD of the Toyota flange I got from trail gear was only a few thousandths off of 1.5". I figured they would have a bearing and they did. For the drive shaft I will pull the bald pinion out of my mock up diff and saw it off. I'll keep the splined end and machine an adapter to make the pinion end weld into a drive shaft tube with interference fits. We will see how that goes.

Here is the bearing and the flange.

I agree!

With the fender in place and the axles where they need to be I could finally finish the chassis design. Here are some pics from the monitor down stairs. Everything in gray or black is in, the colored portions are on the cut list for tomorrow. I think I am going to be really happy with the behind the seat portion, I think it will be very safe.

I didn't work on it today because it was my oldest daughters 3rd birthday party. Here is me and Sophie the birthday girl, with her 1 year old sister Maggie, my wonderful wife Jessica who is 21 weeks pregnant with my son Daniel Conner (named after The Dan Conner....) ;D

Got some time today to work on the chassis. I spent a good hour or two undoing stuff that I probably shouldn't have welded in the first place. Oh well thats how I roll. I love the way the two upper tubes worked out, I can't touch my head to anything when I am strapped it.
