I am waiting to rotate the knuckle balls until I get the rear links in (if I can ever get a cnc lathe at work again....). This is the first rear steer axle I have built so I have a question, what kind of caster angle do I run in the rear? Straight up and down? A few degree's back like the front? Any help here would be wonderful.

Zero degrees! the front should be around -5 to -7 if you are planning on going fast!

Did some work to the rear axle tonight. Finished boxing in the truss, and now that the front axle is an '85 I had to fish the piece I cut off of the factory truss and put it back on.... I also got my new seats today. My spine is safe. loller.gif

Looks good joe! looks like you and jeff been wearing out that plasma table fo sho ! ready to see it in tha woods

We will be in the woods for sure.
I hope to get to Jeff's and get the new Donor motor and cases pulled out of the Yota this weekend.

Jeff for sure got creative with the axle truss.I can't wait to see what he draws up and burns out for the front.

Finally got a cnc with a 3 jaw after work today so I finished up my rear lowers and swung the axle in so I can measure for my uppers. I am going to try and get them in tomorrow.

Anybody know anything about roll center height? Mine is only 20" in the rear. Is that enough or is the chassis going to body roll like crazy?

Pulled the sidekick stuff and slid the toyota stuff in its place. I like this much better....... So does Sophie.

Updates?????? :eat:

Yes sir.... Got the motor in, well the front motor mounts are mocked up, and the rear mounts are in the computer waiting to be cut out. I did how ever get the upper link mounts cut out today after work, that and I machined out my rear upper links. With those done I got the rear suspension mocked up minus some bracing. Now to start on the front end. I like the Toyota stuff much better. Its a little heavier but has a tad more power and sits much lower. My twin sticks came today, they are just mocked up, I will pull the cases next week to complete the install after I steam clean the whole motor-tran-tcases. I wasn't sure what squat/anit-squat numbers I would like so I left it adjustable from 50% to 120%......that should cover it.

Put in a good day today. I cut all the 3/4" heim spacers for the upper links. Also I cut out some new lower link mounts for the chassis that will weld to a tube, I think it looks cleaner that what I had.

Around 5 or so I got tired of thinking so I went on and pulled the t-case so I could mod it for the twin sticks. With all the crap on the outside I was pleased to find the inside was nice and clean and free from any metal shavings.

I have a brake question. If I go with manual brakes what size master cylinder would I need? Stock toyota front brakes front and rear. Also what size cutting brake master?

I called wilwood today and they helped me pick a clutch/brake setup that should do what I need it to. I am going with 3 floor mount pedals, 3/4" master for the clutch, and a set of pedals with 7/8" masters for the brakes. I am not going to run cut brake handles, mainly because this is a trail rig and with 2 seats I have no where to put them. I figure separate brake pedals and a hand throttle will do everything I want to do.

Done. Drive shaft and mock up third are in, suspension is cycled, everything works. I made the shaft an inch short for the disco that will be here soon.

Not much done today. I got the rear steer valve mounted up in a nice comfy spot. I drew the bracket last night and cut it out after work today.

That shaft is a front shaft from a 82-85ish truck. It is the biggest pattern that came in those trucks. I bought if from my buddy at work, I'll ask him tomorrow what year/model it came out of. They are real short though, I retubed that one with the tube from a late 90's geo tracker. (Same tube id)
