...This Project needs a name build..

Looking good man! Not sure if you mentioned already, but what color you gonna paint it?

Look at the third pic in my post, I am leaning towards the flat desert beige or whatever it is called. I slapped on a sample spray coloring for me to decide.

Wife hates the color hahahhahaha. More of a reason to use it.

Sunlight is kind of washing out the color a bit.

Higher AMP alternator from a 2F relocated from lower drivers side to passenger side. Power steering pump installed, and 2F double groved pulley and fan from 2F installed. I need to get the spacer that goes behind that pulley so the groves line up. Also need to get a double grooved crank pulley. Still waiting for a front main seal and timing cover seal so really finish it up.

Installed the steering column from a 76 Fj40. Gives me ignition on the column and better steering wheel and turn signal switch.

looks great man... as color goes, I really like the primer color/pattern you have with the grey and black.

desert tan will go good with black as well :awesomework:

" Fawk dem crazy white girls, specially them blonde ones " .....Just say'n, :fawkdancesmiley:

funny you mention that given who the current girl friend is.... love me some dark meat :D

Cleaned up and resealed the timing cover, replaced front main seal, installed 1976 2F double grooved crank pulley. Very close to finishing the power steering conversion. Tomorrow I am replacing the oil pan gasket among other shenanigans. I am wondering if the water pumps come with the base that the pulley threads into, if so I could just buy a 1976 2F water pump and bolt that on...I think

Header all welded up, and some of that high temp ceramic paint on it. Bolted it back on as well as the intake manifold. Did some other shenanigans as well.

Looking good, that's going to be a sweet rig when its all finished up! Kindness of makes me want to pick up another FJ and build a nice one to cruise around in...

Thanks, hows your T-case looking?

Came across a 1991 Caprice Police cruiser with a TBI 350 and 4L60 in it...seriously considering swapping it in. It is free, prolly needs a rebuild and flush the trans plus service. So I figure the whole swap will cost me around $2000 - 2500 all if no surprises pop up.

I got the last few parts I needed yesterday. The spare case is tore down to an empty housing and ready to get put back together. I noticed my driveline was junk also, the rock crushed the slip section of the shaft so it will not slide anymore. I did some research and found out the 79-83 mini trucks used the same pattern flange as the early FJ's. So I picked one of those up yesterday to build a new shaft out of. Going to hopefully get it all back together next weekend.

Got the water pump all sorted out, power steering pump lined up, radiator shroud cut for alternator move, radiator installed, oil pan installed, bib cleaned up and installed.

oops my teq badge is on upside down. Guess I should have been sober yesterday..but then again it is always fun to go and figure out what you f'd up the next day/.

Nice! Looks like good progress! You sticking with the F motor for a while longer?

I like the TEQ badge, was that on the rig before or did you pick it up somewhere?

Sticking with the F motor at least until winter. I have the option of putting in a 78 2F with a 4 speed and my 3 speed t-case (looking to see if I can put the split case from an 81 FJ60 in there) out of an FJ60, or rebuild a TPI 350 with a 4L60...option 1 is easy, rebuild engine and bolt it in..option 2 is more power, TPI, an automatic but less time driving due to the amount of fabrication that has to be done.

The TEQ badge was a limited run from a guy on Mud. I bought two while I had the chance.

Ah OK. Both swaps have their pluses and minuses. The Chevy swap would.definitely improve the street driveability over the Toyota drivetrain, but the cost/time invested is far greater.

That's too bad, I would have liked to pick one of those up for mine.

Did some wiring today. I am having issues wiring the 76 Alt and 71 voltage regulator. I have looked at **** near every thread on mud dealing with this in some shape or form but nothing in the "Wiring for Dummies" format. I have the FSM and about 3-4 other schematics but either my brain is locked up and I am missing something simple or I am just not getting it.

I moved all of the electrical to the high side of the passenger firewall. ARB air-compressor is wired up, oil and temp sending units wired up (example of how I am doing my wire to connector splicing shown). Head lights, front turn signals and marker lights wired up. Started routing and cleaning up the dash wiring. The loop of wiring under the glove box is extra for power locks and windows, leaving me optional circuits for CB and other shenanigans.

I do not envy you right now. When I rewired mine, the alternator crap was confusing me too, that's why I now have a GM alternator under the hood. :redneck:

I almost kind of enjoy this part, it is like a puzzle for me. I spend most of my time making sure wires are not getting twisted up and making the routing unsightly. Now the damn alternator crap...I am beyond enjoying this part. I foresee more issues under the dash in my future

Hope to get back into the wiring tomorrow, I have a much smarter and wiser person here to help..my dad. He builds airplanes as a hobby so wiring this should be a breeze now
