Re: Hunting a Trailer

My old goose was 42' long. It was a challenge at the gas station for sure.

Good thing you went with a duallie as 10K empty will get you to 14K real quick and that is a good load for a single axle.

You will have to be careful how you load it and try to put a lot of weight to the front to make sure you keep it off the axles.

Did you guys unhook it for the weight? That would be nice to know. Also, if you take it to a truck stop you can get an AXLE weight. Put the truck on one section and the trailer on the other. That way you can see how much of the weight is taken off the trailer and put on the gooseneck.

I would recommend a toolbox in the duallie with all the real heavy stuff in it.

Re: Hunting a Trailer

by weighing 1 group at a time and taking that off the gross as you go across the scale. you can get a very accurate measurement. Do this when we haul cranes and stuff to make sure 1 axle isn't over 20 or 1 group over 60. we should have done this but were in a hurry.
that said, these are 7200# axles. I always found that funny because my 14 plys are rated at 3250 each. that doesn't even hit the 7 my axles are rated for. these goodyears are rated at 3750 EACH tire! Huge contact patch and heavy construction. I'd hate to buy a set of new ones, but we'll see. I'm satisfied with what's under it, and only lament not getting a rear axle weight on the truck. we'll take the truck back to coop with miles in it and nothing else changed and get a weight so we have an actual gross for the trailer.

Re: Hunting a Trailer

If I were you I would replace the factory fuel tank with a Titan. They hold 50 gallons. That would help out on having to stop for gas all the time, since duramax's dont have big tanks like the Dodges. I have a toolbox fuel tank combo that hold 40 gallons and I love it. Makes going on long trips a lot better.

Re: Hunting a Trailer

you can still stop to pee pee if you have that huge fuel tank, just stop at a rest area and park in the rig parkin area...no need for the gas station stops unless you have to! or just stop on an off ramp and piss between the trailer and the truck, load up and roll out!
