Elbe on the chopping block?

You have to also consider the same for the other positions....for instance a position such as Elyse's would be somewhere in the range of 7.5K/mo +/- taking everything into acct...
then, there's onsite equipment/maintenance of said equipment/etc....
I'm siding with a number much closer to Travis' $300K if you think about all the little things I am sure we're not including....

That's NOT DNR practice....That's one (or more) individuals taking advantage of a screwed up system...which they got fired for, and they have since changed their purchasing policy...
so what's your point?

What protects OUR $40 permit funding from being pissed away with corruption and waste?

This is all very simple. Privatization. Make walker private. Make elbe private. What would be interesting is if someone did a study with funny money performing collection at elbe and walker for a weekend. It'd also be a good chance to see how effective collection could be.

See how much money they make in the weekend and what the responses of the users are.

If its enough money in a weekend or two that could be extrapolated into a sustainable fund for that area, I'd pitch that to DNR and see what we could do.

Straddleine is looking for a property manager right now. I think you shoukd step up and show us all how a private park could be profitable.:awesomework:
Eeek! 13 YEARS this trail was in planning+construction.. Half my LIFETIME! And who said Reiter would be sorta ready next year?
That's nothing more than a pipe dream.

How about some nice new paint jobs on some old Hueys? I'm sure this wasn't the $299 maaco paint job.

http://www.nwhelicopters.com/nwh/content/view/108/51/

The paint is nothing. It's extremely expensive to maintain a helicopter.

That's what a lot of folks are concerned about.... I'm sure there will be some changes in how the money will/can be protected from just that...

I should correct myself and say they are probably working on ways to avoid what happened with NOVA...

Emails sent to: Mark Mauren (DNR), Doug McClelland (DNR), Heath Packard (DNR), Sen. Becker, Rep. McCune, and Rep. Wilcox.

I'm on a roll tonight! anyone want me to email Santa and burn his ass for the coal in your stocking?

If this is a budget planning thing, ALL DNR ORV areas would be getting discussed for closure. No money for enforcement ultimately means no trails.

If the 2011-2013 budget cuts are the cause of this, ALL ORV DNR land is in extreme jeopardy. And if they start cutting trails because they don't have enforcement to back them up, they won't have volunteer groups to support them anymore because L&I won't let that happen without DNR on the ground in the area.

Yes...Mark said this is a budget issue. All areas will be considered if the DNR does not get additional funding.

There was a lawsuit that got started about that 2 years ago, but I've heard nothing since then.

Found info about the lawsuit on the PNW4WDA forum...

Just wanted to update everyone on the NOVA Lawsuit filed by WOHVA, NMA and their members. The court has ruled against us on the lawsuit. At the WOHVA board meeting it was approved to authorize our attorney to file an appeal.

From the lips of Mark Mauren himself...He said the first couple years would be an even split between agencies and after that they hope to have enough data from a survey when you get your permit so they can divide it more fairly.

I heard the same thing from Mark...50-50 until they can figure out what types & how many are buying the access passes.

The same point I made earlier. DNR is made of INDIVIDUALS that need money and jobs. Do ya think they are just gonna tell ya about crooked agendas? hell no they get audited and we find out later that we got screwed.

People in an office look out for themselves and the people they work with.

They dont give a **** about us, just keeping the money flowing into their hands and anyone they deem part of their "projects".

How many NON ORV contractors are involved in the reiter "project".

Didnt they tell you guys reiter wont be built by "volunteers" but by contractors

These tasks were taken from people that were willing to do them for free to give them to "bidders".

It called job security for them and their friends.

I do like the idea of trails instead of parks.... this is what pretty much goes on in Canada.

I have never figured out the big push for "parks", big waste or money IMO. Old Reiter was just a bunch of TRAILS. Give folks a semi-decent, level-ish place to park and stage, then a bunch of trails to run. Signage is nice but can be done on volunteer/trail-stewards budget (i.e volunteer labor and funding, maybe to a chosen "standard"). I don't need a shitter, I don't need a "picnic area", I don't need "improved camp sites", if I want those I'll go to a State Park. ORV trails are for recreation, if someone wants to spend the night the pitch a tent in the parking area or bring and RV.

Bathrooms and "improvements" are a waste of money. Blase a trail using a little bit of common seance. Let the users "harden" it over time with he AHJ's blessing, put in gate-keepers or some sort to keep out the dumpers and let it be.

IHO, other than a couple trails that maybe were where they shouldn't have been, "old" Reiter, even in all its "over use" and "Ugliness" too NO monetary input from the state or county and didn't destroy the world. And a fair amount of users took care of it when it really needed it. So me it seems once the "government" got involved in the aspect, it got more difficult, burned more people out, and just cost a **** load of money. When will the DNR and other legislature realize that????

It all started when people moved from California to Washington
Blow the bridge and let things return to normal
Before they moved up here we had
  1. An airplane co that ruled the world
  2. Timber co that exported a finished product
  3. Power companies that produced power not fish
Now everything is imported and outsourced

And then they bitch about unemployment

How much do you think Reiter is worth to DNR? Maybe private donors could get it transferred to the city of Gold Bar?

The popular Wenatchee geologic landmark, Saddle Rock will soon become city property and remain open to public use. The state Board of Natural Resources yesterday (Tuesday) approved transferring ownership of the 328-acre site from DNR to the City of Wenatchee.
