on the shock mounts on the spring plates... On all my builds, I generally just touch that inner nut with a tack to keep it on the plate.

sometimes they have a tendency to get loose after some use...

and I use a small enough tack that I can still easily cut it out easily enough if it ever needs to be replaced down the road.

Just a thought...

The pic doesn't show it but I had to grind the nuts in a V shape and are literally wedged into place..
 
So time to get the last part done so I can paint the inside of the tub.

Bill wanted to retain the CJ fold down tailgate--no problem :awesomework:

So started by removing the CJ inserts for the tailgate hinges---

3 of the 4 hinge bolts had broke off removing the tailgate so instead of making new inserts it was easier to remove the broken bolts.

Mounting the gate was pretty simple. I just measured the Cj from the base of the bed to the center of the hinge holes and duplicated it on the YJ.

There were already 2 holes in the cavity right below where each hinge sits and simply fished the plates up against the body. To hold them I used silicone that would squish when the hinges were tightened.

The last part was the tricky part. I had never made these before and it required some precision to get them right since they hold the cables and the tailgate latches against them. Since they were 1/4" thick the cable bolt didn't have a ton of thread so I milled the bracket down where the cable bolt sits to give it some thread engagement.

Had I done it again I would have tapped the bracket and had the bolt screw into it.

Seems to work as it should.

So since I gotta leave the tub alone for the paint to dry--time to jump into other aspects of the jeep--next is the heater box..

New heater core. The whole reason for tearing it apart was to replace it since the tubes where the heater hoses sit were crushed.

I also replaced the foam seals on the defrost/heat door since they were turning to dust,lol.

And of course the blower motor upgrade (73' blazer).. As for the air box its a direct bolt in.

I looked for replacement grommets that go between the box and the firewall and didn't find anything. I happen to go to lowes and found these rubber washers. They are 1/8" thick and 3 seems to be a perfect width.

Now on the CJ tubs you have to enlarge the hole to 3 1/4". Since this is a YJ tub the hole was big enough but only after I removed the metal collar that was around the motor housing(used a pair of flat nosed snap ring pliers to spread it open and off it went). I still had to modify the firewall though for the blower connector.
