LandSpeeder said:You must've removed my admin rights, which is fine. Ricky gave them to me the last time we lost email notifications and MattO and I eventually got it fixed with a bandaid but I knew it would not last long with GoDaddy. Drop them like a bad habit. They are great for static websites, but not this. There are MUCH better hosting options, that care about their customers. GoDaddy is way too big to care.
I was John's IT consultant for ideas. I never had admin rights with him, he would just call me nearly every day to get advice. I can not STAND being a web admin. I refuse to do it, so more power and much love to anyone willing to be it. Like Woody on IH8MUD, see, he OWNS the site, and it's the worlds largest privately held forum. It's how he lives in SW Utah now. But... and no offense to the OG's... but there is zero way this site can run smoothly by committee, just look at Congress. Like anything, it's needs a single executive to call the shots and be willing to keep EVERYTHING up. It's why IH8MUD simply works and folks use it.
John knew this site needed upgrading to the 2.X SMF versions, we had a dozen long convos about it. But even HE was not willing to do anything about that without the blessings of the original club. He had always hinted to me the things he was trying to do and falling on def ears, so it was kind of surreal to SEE the threads where he would pose a question, the same question that he would tell me about, but no one would respond to him, on SO MANY threads. Having had previous conversations long before his cancer about these things, and to have lost him, then that door being opened up and visualize the wall that he encountered because he simply WOULD NOT move on anything without the blessing of the HL OG's.... It literally broke me down to tears thumbing through some of those empty threads. Damn it I miss that dude. We all do.
Do work. Just do it. Like you say, if you don't, the site will not exist this time next year. So fix it. Everything must change or it dies.

I wasted a bunch of hours dealing with those incompetent **** heads and literally got no where. Pretty sure every "tech" they have is foreign and they use boilerplate responses that you can tell are coming straight from the help manual. The server upgrade has been scrapped because they could not migrate the site correctly. That is why we've been down the last couple days. What should have been a pretty simple copy, export database, import database they managed to turn into a huge cluster.
So, we are currently sitting on a two year renewal of the current server. You would think that moving from server A to server B would be a relatively simple process and they managed to **** that up. Then their "elevated techs" could not figure out why and their solution was to cancel the upgrade and go back to the old server, which I was initially told was being phased out. Wow. I'm not dealing with those assholes for another second. Huge waste of time. I knew Go Daddy was a budget host but I never thought they'd be this bad. I'm going to explore other options.
