How'd your ride go this weekend??? And PM me, I may be able to help ya out on round thingies!!!:redneck:

Was suppose to go to the dunes but the weather sucked ass, so i went to a friends house in ravensdale and chilled there and road Oakwood Indoor MX with a guy from work and the friend i was staying with for the weekend, was gonna ride sunday too but it was snowing outside so Pacific Raceways woulda sucked. Learned a lot though:awesomework: Was like a miny vaction wasnt too far away from home but didnt come back until this morning it was great:cool:

Ok so I cut the u-bolts off that held the shackle thing to the frame since that was easier than trying to unbolt it :redneck: The bumper/tube work is help in by some 2x2 shoved into the frame rails and burned in. When it was done it was messy on the bottom side so I had to do some work to make a decent platform for the new shackle mount to land on. Once done I looked at using one of the shackle thing ends for the new shackle Mount but found they were spring eyes welded to some 1.5x1.5" square tube--I tossed them and just made some new mounts.

So I took measurements and made the new shackle mounts square to the front spring mounts---but I was concerned the spring perch's on the housing are inboarded but for now I ignored it (plus that would explain why the shackles sat off keel)..

So I got the new mounts made and buzzed in place.

For future reference sam if you have to replace those bushings, get some for a YJ on the frame side of the shackle. I am pretty sure thats what those are since they fit the 1.5" dom decently.

At this point my hunch was right. You can see the spring sits in boarded (same on both sides) and the shackle mounts are perfectly square to the spring mounts up front.

Here is another issue I found with one of the shackles.

sam53.jpg

Its got a twist to it and its not bent so will have to see how it looks when bolted back onto the rig.

Ok so I am poking along on this. So I went and pulled the springs and cut the spring perch's off. The springs were all turned so I had to tear them apart (both sides).

I have never seen this before but the 1/2" bolt was the front spring bolt. I have never seen a bolt in that spot bend like that. You can see what was left of the sleeve around the 1/2" bolt. Also look at the center bolt. You could see where each leaf sat on the bolt.

I was able to scrounge up some sleeves, made some new center pins and replaced the spring bolts.

I am thinking the springs are passably allpro springs but not 100%. The bushings are getting a little beat up and you will want to replace them at some point sam.

So I got the springs back in and housing set where I wanted it. Burned the perch's on, cleaned up the spring plates and cut the 5ft off the u-bolts :haha:

I also bent up some new brake lines with secure mounts for the soft and hard lines--no more zip ties sam :redneck:

sam57.jpg

I also plug welded the old vent hole because I don't like them on the side of the tube :eeek: And drilled/tapped a new hole for the vent up "on" top of the housing :redneck: I also did my best to weld the plug weld that was dripping. Not sure if it will hold or not. If it doesn't them the next step is to pull the carrier and seal the tube to the center.

Cleaned the inside of the diff and the cover and resealed it back on.

I also made a new mount for the brake tee and its bolted to the top of the diff (drilled and tapped holes) Fixed the routing under the rig for the brake line and vent.

I was going to redo the messed up shackle. Both sides are pretty well "worked" over but they are function able. I decided to just cut the bad shackle in half and re weld it square. Well its pretty square due to the holes for the springs. Its a tad straighter than the other one now :haha:

So at this point it was time to get some of the air out of the rear brakes.

POP goes the bleeder screw

sam62.jpg

But I was able to get it out with my fancy Lil tool :awesomework:

sam63.jpg

I also found the 3 bolts that hold the passenger brake caliper mount loose so fixed those. I also replaced that broken stud also sam so will need a new lug nut (I might have one laying around).

So I was going to throw the tires on the rig and drop it back onto the ground. But I forgot one thing.

I had some 1.75 tube laying around that was a perfect fit for the hose on the fill neck.

So thats also fixed now and its tucked up against the body tight so it should be good and safe :awesomework:

sam64.jpg

So I threw the wheels on and dropped it back onto the ground and drove it out to get the nose in first to finish the steering. So the only thing left on the rear is to replace both bleeder screws (grab them tommorow).

SAWEET! getting really close now!

How soon can you get wheels and tires :fawkdancesmiley:

I also looked at out options for the pitman arm. I am going to modify a stock IFS pitman arm and see how that goes. So if it works like I am hoping we will be looking really good.
