• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

The snawsage version---- something

AND no shoulder belts! Robins gonna need all that stuff first time out though.

The rig will be on a leash the first time out--I would rather easily fix a problem rather than having something destroyed with alot of work--the time clock is ticking now.

Ok just plukkin along. One thing that needed repaired are the vents for the portals. One problem with these axles are the availability to get parts--and from what robin has told me they are not cheap but also just oddball stuff you just cannot find.... Plus they use 8mm banjo bolts to hold them into place..

Here are what they look like at the diff.

Not only were they just beat to a piss/broken we didn't have all of them anyways...

So I looked at the options for how to do the vents. Well I finally came up with an idea on the axle side. Since all thats needed is a small diameter hose (5/32) and a 3/16" hardline fits it really good. Here is what I came up with. I went and drilled the 8mm threaded holes and tapped them to 1/8" npt--the only down side was I had to pull all the coilovers to access the holes.. So once drilled I used a 1/8"npt to 3/16 hardline 90 degree fitting with a short section of 3/16 hardline. So the whole works hugs the axle and if ever breaks---easily fixable with normal stocked parts.

And they are situated so the new vent hose will be ziptied to the brakeline..

Now due to the space and the fact that its kinda bash zone the same thing could not be done at the portal boxes. We got lucky and 2 of the fittings were the new style and in perfect shape--so I only had to fix 2 of them.. So I had to pick the best 2 of the bunch..

robin192.jpg

So I cut the old broken/bent line off the fitting and drilled it out to 3/16.

And then brazed new 3/16" hardline into it and cut the hardline down to the correct size..

So tommorow I gotta get some 5/32 vacuum hose and thats done..

Robin---I need a measurement on the seatbelt brackets you got so I can get the tabs done. I just need from bolt hole to the belt

robin195.jpg

Ok the portal vents are allll done--another part of the puzzel :awesomework:

Here is how the front axle is done

And the rear axle

Ok---so the throttle was being kept off the idle screw due to the throttle rod being too short with not enough adjustment in it. So instead of just making it longer---it was easier to just get a new chunck of all thread and make a new one..

Old one

New one

Got crafty--and made some hand grips for the grab bar :redneck: It was stuff robin had gotten for the engine breather setup was just too big---ended but being 1" ID so it worked perfectly :awesomework:

So the origional plan for the shoulder belts was going to use the tab style ends on the belts for ease of removing the seat. But one problem I had with doing this after some looking/measuring was the fact that the belt would mount higher than the hole that goes thru the seat which really isn't the best way to mount it or safe IMO.. So I called robin and discussed how I felt about the issue. Well after some talking I ended up doing what I origionally had planned--wrap the belt around the horizontal tube behind the seat....

So I cut the firewall for the belts and trimmed the back deck plates(and 2 mounts behind the tube)...

So tommorow the seats go in for the last time

tick tock tick tock...

tick tock the clock is running..

So got bot drive shafts bolted down correctly :awesomework:

Ok so both seats are in--fully bolted as is all 5 belts (ya didn't relize he had crotch belts so I had to do a lil work to get them in)

Ok so I sm fully outa steam so I am up very early to go over the rig and make sure all the lil stuff is taken care of and ready to load onto the trailer :awesomework:

Ok---so we took it out on saturday. And pleased only failures was an air line and brake line and one caliper. I spent a few hours cleaning it so I could tear into it....

Well I found the hole in the brake line--about 8" back from the air line. It looks like the red heat shielding isn't working quite as planned when you are roughly an ince from a direct heat source with plastic lines....

Ok one thing I overlooked. Something for the rad/res tank. Well what rig isn't fully complete with one of these :redneck:
