The tread is asymetrical (sp),not directional. There is one side of the tire marked outside, and one side of the tire marked inside. This means the tighter tread blocks always remains towards the inside, and the wider tread blocks always remain to the outside.
Regarding your original question, Jeepmauler, from Trailready mounted the tires, with my help. It was MY decision to mount them in the manner the tire manufacturer recommended.

I was sure there was a good reason it just looked odd to me :haha: simply because on one side the tread goes one way /\ and on the other it goes \/ oh well carry on :cheer:

I don't have any. It's over at Dean's house, getting chopped apart, and re-welded. I was concerned that all the links wouldn't hold, because of the added stresses involved with 40s (or 42s) compared to the 37s in the original design. So bigger & stronger mounts were due. At the same time, the roll cage wasn't designed for helmets, so major modification of the cage is in order, and he's putting in additional cage reinforcements for the anticipated rollovers.
The good news is, he's working actively on it, and I'm stoked.
Can you get me additional mounts for the radio, so I can mount the radio from my YJ into the TJ? Need another antenna, cable, power cable, radio bracket, etc. Thanks..
edit: When I got my 40s, I searched far and wide, and got the ONLY set left in existance. Now I find Shannon's got the exact same tire, in 42s.

The tasks I asked for help on, were related to the abuse anticipated. When the TJ was first built, we notched the rear frame, and recessed the springs up and back. This allowed for a wheelbase stretch, and I could keep the lift springs the same, front to back. As the Spring-Plate was moved backwards, the frame rails curve down, so the had to be notched up, to compensate for the loss in height, no longer being at the apex of the arch.
This was all fine and dandy, because the frame on a TJ doesn't really do anything, except hold up the fuel tank (as all the suspension links come from the middle of the frame, and there's nothing at the rear).
However, since I'm now going to be towing a loaded dump truck, having a really strong rear bumper becomes important, which also neccessitated a strong rear frame.
So the fuel tank was removed, as was the rear crossmember (where the shocks would normally mount), and the whole rear section was plated, and the rear bumper mounting holes were reinforced.
Then everything was rewelded back.
You can also see the shock, which were switched from behind the axle, to in front.
The cage was already a stout, well built cage. However there was insufficient headroom to fit helmets (which also means probably a head-buster in a rollover), so the rear center bar was raised almost 3 inches, and new X-bracing, and new spreaders.
Also mounted the seats to the cage.

Some, but not all of the stuff still to do:
Primer and paint the cage,
Buy and install limit straps,
Buy and install tabs, to mount a roof on the cage,
Buy and install aluminum roof for the cage,
Seal dipsticks, pcvs, distributor, etc.,
Install CB, Ham, console, dome lights, fire extinquishers, grab handles, roll bar padding,
Swap hubs to drive flanges,
Buy or borrow a cable weight (required),
Cut & fabricate rear fender flairs,
Fabricate a grill rollover protection,
Install harnesses,
Fabricate/repair nurf bars (where shortened by the new front fenders)
Paint rear quarters,
and a whole bunch of other little detail things.

i couldn't imagine a loaded dump truck being much stress on the rear of that thing!!

I've been tinkering, but really not much has happened since I got it back. Got some limit straps on, painted the cage, padded the areas around the helmets, etc.
Been sick for the last two weeks, so not really interested in working on this.

It's been a month, and I'm back tinkering with this. I took some pics for Four Wheeler, they want to have some blog entries, about each of the competitors. Cannot post pics from work, but I'll post something later.
Current to do list, in no particular order;
Add center roll cage to frame tie-ins. (Tied into the A pillar, and C pillar already)
Seal dipstick tubes, pcv, distributor, etc...
Use dielectric grease on everything else...
Borrow onboard welder (the Dust Devils have a couple units)
Change out steering box to larger unit, perhaps hydro assist
Maybe get some spare link arms made up (in case mine get bent)
Buy spare fuel pump.
Maybe get spare driveshafts
Maybe take the spare axle shafts out of my YJ's D60 front
Already have spare Engine, Transmission, Starter, Alternator, EFI components, Detroit Locker parts, Hubs and many other items.
After TTCC;
Massive cleaning
Lube, Oil, Filter, Air Filter, Drain and fill transmission, Drain and fill Tcase, Drain and fill both axles, repack wheel bearings, Install top & doors & windshield. Swap out drive flanges for locking hubs. Install spare tire carrier. Swap out wheels and tires. Sell these tires. Sell either these beadlocks, or the old set of steel beadlocks.
For Sale: July 1st.
Qty 6, Goodyear 40" Kevlars. Sticky (non-street legal) tires. 4 have minor grooving, to open up the center lugs. 2 are NEW.
Qty 4, Steel Wheels, 17", 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. 3.5" backspacing. Converted by TrailReady to beadlocks.
Qty 1, matching spare wheel, NON-beadlocked

Qty 5, TrailReady HD Beadlocks, 17", 5 on 5.5 lug pattern. 3.5" backspacing.
Prices will be determined AFTER the event, to compensate for damage, wear, etc.
