Air Shock/Front Suspension Redesign Tech

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

Can you raise your upper link mounts at the frame?
Is the rear the same plane also at the skiddy?

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

I'd inboard the uppers and get them spaced up as high as "packaging" will allow, doesnt look like it will allow alot without serious re-construction. But its hard to say without seeing it in person and seeing how close all that stuff is.

It needs a front suspension re-do regardless. thumb.gif

X2 what Bones said , hows the rear setup ?

Well I recall S&N doing straight uppers like this | / \ | he'd need to get the uppers IN at the axle end and UP at the frame.

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

Im talkin just inboard them from that bolt on skid thingy that they appear to be mounted through, Instead of re-inventing the wheel or reworking the entire setup , just inboard , retab with them up as much as packaging will allow and give it a shot with that. ( quick and low fuss/inexpensive... build or by tabs, clear old tabs out of way and do the best you can with what you got to work with )

or you can just redesign the entire front suspension... your call :flipoff1:

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

I was hoping to just be able to raise the upper links as high as I can. It all works out great except the exhaust on the driver's side. I think it is going to fawk me. I agree with P my plan was just to raise them as high as a I can (probably 3-4" is doable)

The rear has two bolt holes so you can adjust the upper links. They are in the upper bolt hole which raises them 2" or so and get's them off the same plane. Rear looks fine.

Yeah that'd be my first plan of attack. Minimal expense and some cussing will get that summbitch better I imagine

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

I got my regulator from Airgas, it has upto 1000psi on air chuck side, and 5000psi on the tank side $84.00
60 tank filled for $110

just need air hose and chuck from Lowes and your set.

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

Mine is up at Dan's. He is going to spend some time underneath it and try to work up a new way to mount the uppers. He also has an easy way to get air bumps under it and wants to remount the rear shocks. We will see. He taught me a lot of cool stuff about link suspension and shocks today..

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

50 is comp and 90 is the rebound i took out all of the rebound out of mine. I talked to Todd at fox and he said 4 crawling you don't need it only 4 racing and i love the way mine acts.

It should work but it's not ideal. With a 1000 psi chuck it's hard to dial in the difference between a charge of 210 and 230. I used a 400 psi regulator on mine.

Awesome! Hope he can get things rearranged to work better for you. thumb.gif

There ya go... cant hide money. :flipoff1:

Can't hide lack of fab skills and equipment. Suspension design is VERY important so I don't mide paying a pro to do it right. Might have to skip some longer trips to pay for it, but I feel it will be worth it. My fab guy retired, what a ****!

Re: Does anybody know anything about tuning air shocks?

Kevin, will you send me you address so I can mail you this check?

So Dan got back with me and suggested raising the front and rear upper mounts at the chassis. He is also going to shorten them. His price was really damn reasonable and I know he is an expert in the area of linked suspensions and shock mounting. He is doing the work himself, which is pretty cool in itself. I am happy because he is not going to have to rework anything but the upper link mounts and shorten the links. Simple, easy and still preserves the rest of the chassis. Air bumps remounting the rear shocks will be for another day down the road. Should have it back this afternoon or tommorrow.

On the air bumps ... you want the ones I got from Kelly ? I havent installed them and Im kinda on the fence on doing so. Was thinking about sending them back to him , but if you need em it would save some frieght and whatnot.

PM me if interested

Eh, I think I am going to hold off on them till the fall. Dan says it would be best to run 4" bumps anyways, and showed me where he would mount them and it is totally doable.
