Air Shock/Front Suspension Redesign Tech

Ahh I thought they were the 2" variety. I really don't have the money after paying for the suspension work. Plus we have some vacations in July that I have to pay for, then a trip in August and KOTH. If you still have them in Sept/Oct I may consider it.

and I still have a pair of SAW 4"s for sale. I sold one, and still have the second set.

Was the front of your rig roll steering bad on flat ground Matt just curious, I have fixed probably 20 or so local rigs set up this way and the one unifying factor amongst them all was the chassis roll steer. One gentleman had this setup front and rear and would almost flip in the parking lot when he was showing me his problems .

Everything seemed ok on that front Jimmy.

I went by after worked to take a look and the driver's upper was cut and mocked up as it is the hardest link by far to deal with. The others are no problem. Dan has designed a mount to cut out on the table that will work on all 4 corners. Should be trick. Should be finished up tommorow. The bad news is I had several bent heims from the poly bumps hinting them and the exhaust had to be cut and removed. Exhaust redo will cost some jack and add 3 heims to the bill. Oh the joys of rock crawling. Looking fwd to having it fixed.

i went by there today and bought some tabs and some link material and dan was under yours trying to figure out how to mount everything

ummmm...

please see my thread about my torque problem. I've still never figured it out.
however I've had it out crawlin and busted up a few hills - no roll

sorry hijack off

Is it still at Dans or you pick it up already ? I thought about cruising by today to see what up... :dunno:

Nah it is still there, should get the bumps from Woodlee today so he can mock those up on there. He has done the Driver's side Upper which is the hardest one and he made some trick brackets that have gussets that go together like a puzzle. I will probably be end of the week before it is done now that we through air bumps into the mix. I don't think he has worked much on it since Mon.

add 3 heims to the bill.
I'm curious, which heims are you running? They looked like regular 3/4" heims in the pics but it's hard to be sure without being in person. I've found these guys to have very good prices and quick shipping: http://www.expertoffroad.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=2-RES%20XMR12

If you're open to new ideas, I wish I took the chance the install 1.25" johnny joints when I redid my links last winter. They are a whole lot stronger, you can easily find pre-made brackets for them, and the price is about the same once you add misalignment spacers to the 3/4" heims. In my area, everybody buys their brackets and tabs from http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/index.php . The material is thicker, the price is better, and they tend to use a CNC bender instead of just cutting the pieces and having you weld them up in your shop.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Feel free to use them or discard them as you see fit. ;D

They are 3/4" heims with 5/8" hole. Johnny Joints would mean all new tabs with smaller bolt holes and a bunch of other BS. I am going to stick with what I have. They are QA1 Chromo Heims and given they were all original, Ie 5 years old, they were mostly slop free and in good shape.

Right, like bigger link tubes that can handle a 1.25" end screwed into them. That was the reasoning that I used to stay away from them. As it is I just have a spare that I leave at camp. I've only broken one so it's been working for me so far but if I was starting fresh I'd have johnny joints all around.

Trust me he knows this and would too time / money allowing.

I dont know how that rig got wheeled prior to Matt owning it, but it will not go 5years much less 1 year on a set of 3/4 rodends. Id put money on that. laughing1

Good point P, that buggy wasnt built as a rock bouncer. Its a finess rig built by Northwestern axmen. They go slow across the forest floor.
You guys peg off the rev limiter on ping pong assults. That buggy doesnt know WTF has happened to it.

Maybe he can just replace the lowers if it comes to that. I run johnny joints on the lower links and 3/4" on the uppers. That might hold up better. These things are never done. ::)

It will know soon enough... I got a feeling next weekend its gonna get another dose of what life is going to be like laughing1

* I been there done that cheap ass link stuff what a PITA... Im running ballistic 3.0's with 3/4 through holes in all lowers and JJ's in all uppers. For a "small-ish" buggy my links are way over the norm and Im glad !! thumb.gif

Time will tell, I have all but blown my wad for this year so I hope it stays together. The steering squeal at full lock is the only other issue I know off hand. I feel like as light as the rig is it will fair ok with the quality rod ends. P you could never make them last in the turd cause it weighed a metric ton and you ran the $12 ends :flipoff1: Those things have slack in em when you buy em :flipoff1:

I am not worried about the uppers at all. 1.5" .250 DOM with 3/4" heims is by now way underkill.

That is what the Purple jeep has, but I have never wheeled it hard :flipoff1: I have replaced 3 in 5 years due to slight movement.

All the new link mounts are done and total tally on new heims was 5. I doubt he is going to have time to finish the bumps before the ride on the 5th. He is going to get a cost for that job and get all the parts and pieces he needs measured and drawn up to be cut on the table. I think the bump mounts and landing pads are going to be sweet because they are all going to be one off pieces that he cuts! Should be taking it home tommorrow, then off to the exhaust shop.
